morning
As promised we have some new music for you in the form of Duncan Vaughan’s funk inspired instrumentals and The Retrospective’s power pop riffs. Duncan joined us for a while with his merry band of excellent musicians and recorded 9 instrumental tracks which was a lot of fun.
As mentioned previously The Retrospective are essentially old friends of the studio and they popped their way through a long weekend coming out with 5 tracks. There are some clips up on the Restrike player now and some alternate clips residing on the Restrike Myspace player as well.
More to come shortly

New music in abundance
July 17th, 2009The Retrospective
July 13th, 2009Hi
Just finished a session recording with The Retrospective (who have yet to have an online presence though I am assured it is on the way). Front man Scott has been in to the studio with 2 other bands but his allegiance to the might of power pop remains strong. All went well until vocal time when the pop shield was nowhere to be found (in a fit of madness I had taken it home). I resorted to taping a pen across the mic which worked a treat (read about the technique in TapeOp a short while ago, great mag). Result. Some music from the guys shortly.
Cheers
Cormac

June 6th, 2009Restrike Engineer teaching at Futureworks
June 3rd, 2009Hi all
For the last few months I’ve been lecturing on audio engineering at Futureworks Media School in Manchester, working with new students at the start of their 2 year course. Just now we’re looking at compression, particularly parallel compression, and I happened across these nifty little vids (by Mike Caffrey at Monster Island Studios) that do a great job of explaining it. Check them out.
More tips to come.

June 2nd, 2009Hi all
finally got some spare time to hook the auto locator up to the tape machine. No more craning over the desk to see the tape counter…. Now I just need to figure out how it works.
